A figure lies face up beneath a heavy woven rug in a field. Boots confront the camera at an awkward angle.
The legs are bare and muscular yet they are flattened; rendered absurd under the weight of something trivial and domestic. The rug, an artifact of civilization and control, becomes a stand in for culture itself: patterned, ornamental, and burdened with history.
There is a mammalian instinct at play: to burrow, to hide, to shield the naked body from exposure.
Under the Rug reflects on masculinity, concealment, and the animal urge to shelter.
